with much shallowness i concluded

the sarawak tribune case sends a strong message; selective sensationalism is allowed, selective disrespectful reporting is allowed, as long as it’s embedded journalism. i'm not even championing their "freedom of speech".

part and parcel of the americanisation of malaysian society, arabisation is passé.

with much shallowness i concluded

We hold to the principle that press freedom in a multi cultural.multi religious and multi ethnic world carries with it the responsibility tu refrain from gratuitous insult and hurt , when it involves the sacred and central beliefs of the faithful of all religions. There is no humor or caricature in gratuitously poking someone in the eye and then telling that person to have a sense of humor.
In the case of these offensive caricatures the abuse of freedom of speech and the double standard of the publishers are very obvious. Since we know that no self respecting publication in Europe would dare print such a caricature of a Jew as a financier as used to happen in Europe's disgarceful history and anti semitism. What the Tribune really did was clearly obviously inappropriate and provocative.

like i said, i do not condone sarawak tribune's reprinting of the comic strip, though it wasn’t for the purpose of humouring the muslims but rather to report. i salute the british tabloids for their stand, when reporting the news.

again, like many other similar press report, it shows how much disrespect and disregard we have for other people; all in the name of sensationalism (or not).

it’s ok to slander the non main stream, but not to insult the majority.

how much pain did the press inflict on norita shamsudin’s family, did we ever wonder? that’s acceptable; it’s the obligation of the press to report.

to me they all point to one; insolence.

makkkkkk!!! i've done the labelling...

p.s.

we are falling into the trap, demonisation of the muslims; a propaganda initiated by the us. history is repeating itself; the act of demonising is now readdressed, but to the muslims.
